A significant portion of the virus removal work that we perform results from basic trickery. As described in the article linked below, the perpetrator simply makes his program look like a genuine and useful tool…many times a virus removal tool. Normally this will be the result of a popup ad or a window designed to look like a Windows error box. As soon as the user clicks the link or image a file is then downloaded and executed which “infects” the system. At this point the program starts to “dig in” and generally presents the user with a whole bunch of annoying popup windows and error messages. These programs are designed to scare the user into providing credit card information over the Internet for software that will “cure” the infection.
Remember that there are rotten people around the net. Be careful where you surf and where you click. If you are attacked by any of these programs, please call us as soon as possible and we’ll get your computer cleaned up and back online.
